Lake Cushman Resort: Area Attractions!

The Olympic National Forest is pet friendly and has over 200 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and/or biking that are divided into three general categories:

Trails range in length from short to long, with approximately half of these at lower levels; they can be enjoyed year round. Be sure to check out the Olympic National Forest's web site at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/olympic/ for in-depth details and maps.

Remember, The National Park is pet friendly in the parking lot, but not on the trails.

The Olympic National Park has over 600 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and/or biking. Trails rated easy, moderate or difficult; you can find details and maps along with other interesting and useful information at their web site: http://www.nps.gov/olym/home.htm.

Staircase: Located at the headwaters of the Skokomish River in the Olympic National Park, Staircase offers beautiful trails (pets are not allowed on the trails), guided walks & nature programs; you can hike way up into the high country. Staircase is just 11 miles from Lake Cushman Resort.

Fish & Wildlife Hatchery: In downtown Hoodsport. Catch a crab off the Hoodsport dock!

Hoodsport Shops: From hand-dipped ice cream, lattes & baked treats at the Hoodsport Coffee company, groceries & deli temptations at the IGA, to unique gift & home decor items at Laurie's, Hoodsport has it! Pier 101 has placed in the KING TV5 top 5 in Women's Boutiques for several years. We have a certified jeweler at Octopus Garden Jewelry, local artists' gallery of jewelry & much more. Victoria's offers craft classes, supplies & custom engraving. Owlies has an exceptional inventory of collectibles & antiques. There's a wine tasting room, a winery and, opening in Spring of 2013...The Hardware Store Distillery! Several restaurants to choose from and a pub. Fishing licenses, bait & tackle at Hood Canal Outfitters. Hood Sport 'n Dive for your SCUBA needs.

Hoodsport Services: Include a visitor center, bank, dentist, nurse practitioner, liquor, grocery and hardware stores, a fitness center, hair salon, post office & RV/boat storage. ATM at Lake Cushman Grocery just 2 miles from us and also at the Shell station & Columbia State Bank (formerly West Coast Bank) in Hoodsport. Considering settling in the area? Hoodsport Trail Park: At mile marker 3 on Hwy 119, this loop nature walk with interpretive signs is 1/2 to 1 1/4 miles long depending on the loop taken. Leashed pet friendly!

Hoodsport Visitor's Center: Stop by for current trail information/conditions and local activities/points of interest. Located on Hwy 119 between the Post Office and ProBuild. Open daily.

Hoodsport Winery: Located just south of Hoodsport on Highway 101 and only minutes from Lake Cushman Resort, Hoodsport Winery produces some of the finest, award winning, Washington State wines. The gift shop and wine tasting room are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Lake Cushman Dam No. 1: Follow the signs coming up Hwy 119 for viewing opportunities. This dam is approximately one mile from Lake Cushman Resort.

"One of the first major dams in the Pacific Northwest, Tacoma Power's Cushman Dam No. 1 was officially dedicated in 1926 when President Calvin Coolidge pressed a button in the White House to energize the project. The dam is on the North Fork of the Skokomish River near Hood Canal. It is 275 feet high and 1,111 feet long."

Lake Cushman Dam No. 2: This second dam is approximately 2 miles from Lake Cushman Resort.

"...completed in 1930, forming the small 150-acre Kokanee Lake. This dam measures 235 feet above bedrock and is 575 feet in length."

Lake Cushman Dam No. 2 Powerhouse: The powerhouse for Cushman Dam No. 2 is located on Highway 101 in Potlatch, just over 7 miles from Lake Cushman Resort. Please call the number below for information regarding tours available Monday - Friday with 10 days advance notice.

"Electricity moves from the Cushman Hydro Project to Tacoma on a 40-mile-long transmission line...the power lines were the longest single span in the world."

Lake Cushman Golf Course is nestled in the forest of the Olympic Mountains above Hoodsport, Washington on the scenic Hood Canal. It is a public 9 hole course with a second set of tees which plays a challenging 18 holes.

The course is meticulously maintained year-round by Lake Cushman Maintenance Company. It has a wide open driving range, putting green and practice bunker. The Pro Shop is fully stocked with equipment, clothing and accessories. There are beverages, snacks and hot dogs you can enjoy on our deck overlooking the putting green. The course is a nice walk or you can choose to rent one of our Yamaha golf carts.
